What to Expect When You Open Your Package from Mimi Hair Couture

When you open your package of Indonesian hair extensions, you will find that they are securely protected in a silk pouch. The bundles will be neatly arranged, and you may notice some short hairs around the wefts. These are called "beards," and they are completely normal.

Pre-Installation Care

Before you install your extensions, it's important to wash them. This will remove any residue from the manufacturing process and help to condition the hair. Be sure to wash your extensions with a mild shampoo and conditioner, and rinse them thoroughly.

Installation

There are a few different ways to install Indonesian hair extensions. The most common method is the braiding method. With this method, you will divide your hair into sections and braid them in the pattern of your choice (the pattern will differ if you use a lace closure or not). Another option is the "microlink" method. Microlinks are small metal rings that are attached to your natural hair with a special tool to create a track onto which the weft can be sewn on. It allows for some of your hair to be free in between tracks.

Weekly Maintenance

To maintain the health of your extensions, it's important to wash them regularly. Depending on build up, you should wash your extensions with a mild shampoo and conditioner at least once or twice a month. More is perfectly fine, especially if you are wearing a sew in weave; your scalp needs to stay clean. Be sure to condition your extensions thoroughly to help keep them hydrated.

It is also important to brush your extensions regularly. Brushing will help to distribute the natural oils from your scalp to the hair, which will help to keep them looking healthy and shiny. Use a wide-tooth comb or a special brush designed for hair extensions (Denman brushes are great)

Daily Care

To style your extensions, you can use the same products that you use on your natural hair. However, be sure to avoid using heat styling tools on your extensions too often. Heat styling can damage the hair and cause it to break. If you do use heat styling tools, be sure to use a heat protectant.

Bedtime Care

At night, you should put your extensions in a high ponytail or a bun. This will help to prevent them from getting tangled. You can also wear a satin scarf or bonnet to protect your extensions from friction.

Products We Love

We recommend using hydrating conditioners with smoothing properties to maintain the moisture and reduce frizz. Here are a few of our favorite products:
